Folding Hammer Merwin, Hulbert .38 DA

SOLD — A classic Merwin, Hulbert DA chambered in .38 S&W. This is a 5-shot double-action revolver with fluted cylinder, and round barrel. It has a 3.5” barrel. It retains about 75% original nickel finish with just scratches and just a few small losses to the nickel. Has a partly-buffed-off “C.P.D. no. 47” marking on the backstrap. So this may indicate that it was issued by the Chicago Police Department.  The patent date markings are crisp, so this does not appear to be have been re-nickeled. Has very nice mechanical function with a very nice tight lockup. Indexes perfectly in both single and double action modes  It has original factory “Checkerboard” -logo black gutta percha grips that are in very good condition.  The bottom of the right grip panel shows a well-executed repair. The barrel has typical Merwin Hulbert markings, with latest patent date in 1882. The cylinder has a mis-matched serial number. This revolver’s fairly low frame and barrel serial # (1271X) would indicate production before 1888. This gun came from a ranch near Twin Bridges, Montana.  (LKOF-572)
