Oviedo Arsenal (Mauser) M1893 Postal Sporter

Pending Sale to T.I.: Scarce Spanish M1893 Mauser sporter very clearly dated 1898 on the receiver ring! Built on an Oviedo Arsenal receiver. Stock is stamped “AP” in large capital letters below the bolt, indicating that it had been issued to the Apartado Postal / Apartado de Correos (Spanish Postal Service.) The rifle appears to have a black enamel painted finish –typical of Spanish Civil War period re-arsenalizing. This is a typical sporter with a cut-down hardwood stock, but still with an original military butt plate. In good working condition with a smooth, tight action and a good bore. Typical finish wear and dings. The stock has obviously been sanded and refinished, when it was shortened. It is sad that someone sporterized a rifle with some interesting history. But regardless, this is a very scarce rifle! This is a good candidate for re-stocking with a laminate or fiberglass stock and turning into a scout with a M1895 B-Square or S&K forward scope mount.
