Very Rare 1898-Dated Swedish M1896/38 Mauser Short Rifle

A very rare 1898-dated Carl Gustaf Swedish M1896/38 arsenal short rifle conversion Mauser.  This one is dated 1898 — from the first year of production.The barrel is 23.5″ –which was standard for the Swedish M1896/38 and the M38. This rifle’s serial number is 102X, so it probably came from the first month of production.  All-matching numbers except for the rear barrel band. Even the cleaning rod is numbered and matching! Has a small import-mark: “CDI Swan VT.” – The metal finish is worn from use, with about  60% or better bluing. The wood shows wear from use and handling. This is one of the variants that had its muzzle threaded to accept a blank shredder. A U.S.-made flash hider with matching threads is included. The handguard is extra-long, which is characteristic of Carl Gustaf arsenal-produced  Mausers. The action is smooth. The trigger pull is crisp. Front sight is standard trapezoidal blade. The rear sight is the rare and exquisitely-precise Metallverken Vasteras stepped dial-adjustable type. The bore shows good rifling and does reflect light, but Is dark and worn throughout its length. This variant is very rare–and in fact much more rare than an 1898-dated Swedish carbine.  It is very hard to find a Model 1896/38 conversion that is both dated 1898 and equipped with the Metallverken Vasteras target sight.
