Colt Model 1895 .38 Colt New Army — Commercial — With Ivory Grips!

A scarce 1896 production Colt Model 1895 .38 Colt New Army & Navy Double Action, commercial production, 6-shot swing-out cylinder with unusual pre-ban elephant  ivory  grips. Appears to have original finish and it is mechanically sound. Bore has nice rifling. Nicely-aged period elephant ivory grips, with just  slight shrinkage. (They are CITES ivory  import ban exempt.) Serial number 9539X. Has the assembly number 439 stamped inside frame. 95% of this model’s production were for military contract, so “commercial” examples like this one are quite scarce, and for it to have period ivories makes it even more desirable. Has 98% overall blue finish, and that appears to be original, since the markings are are all sharp, and the sides of the trigger have distinctive electric bluing.  They don’t come much nicer than this!
