Unusual 7.62mm NATO Arsenal-Converted Loewe Chilean Mauser

An unusual 7.62mm NATO arsenal-converted Ludwig Loewe Chilean contract Mauser. (Originally a 7mm Mauser, but went back to the arsenal  for re-barreling in the 1960s.) SThe A-prefix serial # A677X makes its date of manufacture circa 1895.  As is typical of re-arsenalized Mausers, the serial numbers are mismatched.  Metal surfaces rate very good, with crisp factory markings and an intact Chilean crest. Has typical marring and handling marks to wood–particularly at the wrist. (See photos.) Cleaning rod is present. Bluing is good, overall. There is a small patch of surface rust on the bottom of the bolt handle. (See photos.) Sharp crest on receiver and cartouche is present on stock. Has a correct “7.62 N”-marked receiver. Has an original Chilean infantry leather sling in good condition. Good shootable bore with distinct rifling. Passed a bullet tip muzzle test. This should make a good practical shooter, just as-is.  But since it is re-arsenalized and has mismatched numbers, it is a good candidate for rebuilding as a sporter. Has the standard infantry pattern straight bolt. Less than 2% of Chilean Mauser full-length rifles were arsenal-converted to 7.62mmm NATO. I rarely get these in stock, and given the desirable chambering they usually sell immediately. Have a gunsmith check this rifle and advise you on the types of ammo that are safe to shoot. (UCE-213)
