S&W Safety Hammerless .38 – 2nd Model

A Smith & Wesson  .38 S&W 5-shot Second Model Safety Hammerless (Lemon Squeezer) revolver. About 98% original nickel on the barrel and frame and 85% on the cylinder, and has gone a bit cloudy. There are traces of color casehardening visible on the sides of the trigger. Grips are in excellent condition but fading to a chocolate brown color. (See photos.) Serial # 4423X makes it certain that this revolver is pre-1899 production. The bore has excellent rifling, and just a bit of leading or pitting visible in the grooves. I’d rate it 8/10. Mechanically, this revolver is nice and tight and works just as it should, with no wobble. This would make an ideal pre-1899 Federally exempt concealed carry revolver.  I am including a used period leather pocket holster that fits the revolver well and is maker-stamped with what looks like “Hercules” in a script font.
