Scarce Carcano M1891 Terni Carbine — Dated 1895!
A scarce Carcano M1891 6.5mm Terni arsenal carbine. The shank is quite clearly dated 1895! This Italian military bolt-action service carbine is chambered in 6.5x52mm. Plain wooden straight grip stock and upper hand guard, Metal butt plate, Leather sling and swivels, Bayonet lug, Steel cleaning rod, Barrel Length, 18″. SN:D401X. Condition: Good. Fair shootable bore with moderate pitting. All metal retains good original blued finish with moderate usual finish loss and wear turning to deep brown patina throughout, Stock and forend are solid with light dings and handling marks but does show a 3″ repaired crack to either side at toe, Good clean soft leather sling and good metal butt plate. The wood may have been sanded, assuming that it was rearsenalized. The barrel shank is stamped “TERNI 1895”, Also has a Terni 28 stamp, indicating that it was rearsenalized. (See photos.) Carcanos that are dated 1898 or earlier in any condition are very hard to find! Note that 6.5×52 Carcano softnose ammo is now produced by Prvi Partisan (PPU) in Serbia, and it is widely available. This is a handy-length carbine that is collectible and also should make a good shooter. (UBK-651)
