Rare Red Grip S&W 2nd Model DA .38

A rare Smith & Wesson 2nd Model DA revolver, .38 caliber, with red mottled gutta percha grips. Serial #3557X. The revolver is in very good+  overall condition. Standard 3.5″  barrel. This revolver retains 60% original blue finish. The hammer and trigger show toned case color hardening. The grips are original mottled red checkered hard rubber and are in nearly excellent condition. The antique “red-grip” variant S&Ws are rare and collectible. (Red mottled grips were a special order feature, and only rarely seen.) The bore has good rifling but with some pitting. The action is crisp and the markings are sharp on this late production 2nd Model. The grips are in very nice condition with crisp checkering, but with some minor sun-fading on the right grip panel.
