Ludwig Loewe M1891 Argentine Mauser Semi-Sporter
A shortened Ludwig Loewe M1891 7.65 Argentine Mauser rifle. Very good overall condition as refinished and customized. The barrel was originally 28.5″, but has been neatly shortened to a more practical length. The original military stock has had its forend shortened, to match The front band is still present. The bolt handle has been bent to a sporter profile. The buttstock has fairly plain and sturdy straight grain, and has been sanded. It still has its original military sling swivels. The cleaning rod has been removed. It is still chambered in 7.65mm Argentine Mauser. Serial # R480X. (Manufactured circa 1896.) The serial numbers on this rifle all match –even the stock! The crest has been buffed off, which is typical for imported Argentine Mausers. The original military ladder sight is present, and it works properly. The bluing on this rifle is about 98%. I suspect that was reblued — at least at the muzzle — but the markings are sharp. The bore is very good with sharp rifling, but is in need of cleaning. This should make a great knock-around shooter for practical use as a truck gun or ATV gun. Note that Norma and PPU factory 7.65mm Argentine Mauser softnose ammo is readily available. Ballistically, it is similar to .308 Winchester. A very useful and reasonably–priced rifle that is also a Federally-exempt antique. (PKB-981)
