Ludwig Loewe M1891 Argentine Mauser .308 Winchester Scoped Sporter

A nicely sporterized Ludwig Loewe M1891 Argentine Mauser rifle with a traditional receiver-mounted scope.  It is in very good+ overall condition as refinished and sporterzed. (See photos.) It is in a Monte Carlo-style walnut stock with a Pachmayr White Line recoil pad that shows considerable wear. There are some noticeable scratches on the stock, from hunting use. Has QD sling swivels, front and rear, and a generic black nylon sling. Has a 95% reblued finish on the barrel, receiver, and magazine. There are some rust spots on the barrel near the muzzle and a haze of pinprick corrosion elsewhere on the blued parts that should clean up easily.  There is no crest on the receiver ring, and it has been nicely reblued. This rifle’s serial numbers are a mismatch between the receiver and magazine. The bolt has been recontoured to a sporter configuration and is no longer serialized. The serial number is M860X, making this rifle circa early to mid-1898 production. A Simmons 3-9x50mm duplex reticle scope has been installed using Weaver bases and high Weaver scope rings.  The scope looks nearly new. There are two small trapped holes in the receiver where a receiver-mounted rear sight must have been installed before this rifle was scoped.  There is a ramp-style front sight, but no corresponding rear sight. There is a 20.5-inch straight-taper modern sporter barrel from an unknown maker that is stamped.  “308”.  Take Note: This action is not rated for high-pressure .308 Winchester loads, so only moderate-pressure .308 handloads with 130 to 150 grain bullets should be used. This rifle has an excellent bore with deep, sharp rifling and a nice smooth action. This would make a great Federally exempt hunting rifle or counter-sniper rifle. (KPL-056)
