Ludwig Loewe M1891 Argentine Mauser Sporter, 7.65×53
A sporterized Ludwig Loewe M1891 Argentine Mauser carbine. Excellent overall condition as refinished and customized. The original military 7.65×53 Argentine barrel has had it original front sight set back on a shortened barrel. A Williams receiver-mounted fully adjustable rear sight with peep insert has been installed. It has a nice commercial walnut sporter stock with a well-worn and deformed recoil pad that is in need of replacement. (See photos.) Has a partly-turned-down calvary-style bolt. 22″ barrel, The receiver serial # P589X places its date of manufacture in 1897. The rifle’s serial numbers all match. 99% bluing on the barrel, receiver, and magazine. The bolt is still in-the-white (as original), but it has partially dulled. The Argentine crest has been removed, and the receiver ring polished and reblued. Quick detachable sling swivel studs with white spacers have been installed. The bore is nice — fairly shiny, with distinct rifling. This nice rifle appears to have had very little use after sporterizing. So this should make an accurate hunting rifle. Note that reloadable 7.65mm Argentine Mauser softnose ammo is still made by both Norma of Sweden and PPU of Serbia. A practical and attractive sporter that is also a Federally-exempt antique, at an affordable price. The only detractor is the worn and deformed recoil pad, but that can easily be replaced, even by an amateur gunsmith. (PEU-013)
