Chilean Contract Loewe Mauser M1895 Short Rifle — Good Condition

A good condition Chilean Contract Loewe Mauser M1895 Short Rifle.  This handy rifle (with 23.5-inch barrel) is chambered in 7x57mm Mauser. It looks all original, as rearsenalized. The bore is in need of cleaning, but it shows distinct rifling and it might clean up well, with some scrubbing. The buttplate has pitting.  (See photos.) The serial numbers are mismatched, as is typical of rearsenalized Chilean rifles. The top of the bolt stop screw is broken off, but it is still fully  functional.  (Replacement screws are a $ 3 item.) The cleaning rod is absent. The reversible sling swivels are mounted on the left side. The stock has typical ldings. Most of teh original bluing has gone to gray, except in sheltered areas.  The serial number is A185X, indicating that it was made in 1895 — the first year of production  All-in-all, this is a good rearsenalized Mauser with a handy barrel length.  It is a good representative sample for any collection, but if the rear sight was replaced or if it were re-barreled/sporteized it also would make a good practical hunting rifle, or ATV/truck gun. Because it has mismatched numbers, it would also be a good “guilt-free” short rifle to turn into a scout sporter, and/or to refinish with Cerakoting, Parkerizing, rebluing, or camouflage hydrodipping.
