Winchester M1892 .44-40 with 23″ Round Barrel
Scarce Winchester Model 1892 antique rifle in the most desirable .44-40 (aka “.44 WCF”) chambering. Made in 1897. (Serial # 15053X). Round 23″ barrel. (Standard length was 30 inches, so this is likely a special-order rifle.) Unaltered full-length magazine. Factory buckhorn adjustable rear sight with matching patina. The brass blade front sight looks original. The stock and forend are in very good+ condition, with just minor scratches and small dents, but no cracks — even at the wrist! 50% original blue on the barrel, and 40% on the magazine. Receiver shows some wear, but it has a nice even and unaltered look to it. Bore is fairly shiny with some minor pitting but distinct rifling. Crescent buttplate has a worn finish (10% original blue). The lever is nice and tight. All markings are crisp so this does not appear to be a refinished gun. This rifle is very good mechanically, and the hammer does not fall from quarter-cock if the trigger is pulled. This rifle came from a ranch in eastern Oregon. (PEKS-440)
