Brazilian M1894 Sporter Chambered in 7.62×39 (AK)

A Ludwig Loewe Brazilian contract M1894 rifle with a nice blond stock, originally 7mm Mauser (7x57mm) but apparently was more recently re-barreled to 7.62x39mm Russian (the AK-47 cartridge), using a commercial sporter contour barrel.  (Be sure to have the chambering confirmed and headspace checked by a gunsmith before firing. For liability reasons, I am selling this rifle “as-is”, as an uncompleted sporter project gun.) One flat on the rear of the barrel was left in the white. A standard Leopold scope base has been installed. (Takes standard Leopold scope rings.) The bolt handle has been sporter recontoured and a Dayton-Traister Mark II low swing safety has been installed, for sope clearance. The safety works properly. The serial number is illegible. Loewe & Company became a part of Deutsche Waffen Munitionsfabriken (DWM) in 1897, so all “Loewe” marked Mausers are pre-1899. The top of the receiver has had the Brazilian crest buffed off. The left side of the receiver is marked with “ESTADOS UNIDOS DO BRAZIL / MANUFACTURA LOEWE BERLIM 1894” –partly buffed off. (The Portuguese spelling of Berlin is used “Berlim”.) The bottom metal is marked with just a “U” acceptance stamp. The follower is still configured for 7×57 Mauser, so it should be replaced or recontourewd to assure smooth feeding of the shorter 7.62×39 cartridges. Barrel length is approximately 21.5 Inches. There are no iron sights. The military stock has been poorly inletted to accept the sporter barrel.  There are holes in the stock for sling swivels (military in the rear and civilian in the front), but the swivels are absent. Those are easy to replace. The recountoured military hardwood stock has a straight grip, cutout for the bolt handle, and a military metal buttplate. I am including a Tourbon-slipover leather recoil pad.  The blond wood is nice overall but shows a few scratches. The forend tip was very nicely recontoured. The bore is fairly bright and has sharp rifling. This rifle retains about 95% bluing on the barrel, but virtually no finish on the receiver and the bottom metal, so this rifle should be reblued, Cerakoted, or camouflage dipped.  This would be a good candidate to complete as a practical sporter project.
