A Limited Number of Swiss Model 1896/11 Schmidt-Rubin Rifles
We recently obtained the last 10 available, from an importer: Scarce Pre-1899 antique original Swiss M1896/11 rifles. The one pictured is a representative sample–not the one that you will receive. These 7.5×55 Schmidt-Rubin straight-pull long rifles are in “good or better” condition. Standard 30.7” barrel, blued finish, hardwood stock, blade front sight, and adjustable rear sights. These are all Swiss ordnance marked on receiver, barrel, the right side of the buttstock, and many small parts with Swiss crosses. These rifles typically have less than 70% of their original finish remaining on most of the metal parts. The bottoms of the magazines and the buttplates usually show the most wear and may have less than 20% finish. The wood has typical old dents and handling marks. Their condition varies. The charging handle brown bakelite disks may have cracks or chips. (Inexpensive modern replacements are available on eBay.) The actions are smooth and the bores are quite nice. You will be getting “the luck of the draw”, for condition. Sorry, no hand-picking. I would rate eight of them in “good” condition, and two in “very good” condition. These rifles are recent imports, so they have import marks. Important note: These were all hand-picked to have serial numbers under 236,500 — qualifying them as legally antique, per Federal law. Less than 10% of Model 1896/11 rifles are legally antique, and because of this, they command a premium price. Most importers are not willing to hand pick for serial number range for their customers, but one kind importer did so for us. (It helps to buy them ten at a time, to get their cooperation.) Of all of the various Schmidt-Rubin straight-pull rifle variants, the Model 1896/11 is my favorite. Why? It can safely handle the high-pressure 7.5×55 GP11 cartridge and modern commercial cartridges. AND just a few Model 1896 rifles are Federally antique (exempt, NO-FFL) rifles. I’ll leave the treasure hunt for a possible soldier’s name and address tag under the buttplate up to you. Just one of these rifles remains from what will probably be our last batch, so do not hesitate.
