Ludwig Loewe M1891 Argentine Mauser Semi-Sporter

A shortened Ludwig Loewe M1891 Argentine Mauser rifle.  Very good overall condition as refinished and customized. (See photos.)  The barrel was originally 28.5″, but  has been neatly shortened to a more practical 23.5″. The original military stock has had its forend shortened, to match  The front band has been moved back, but no longer has a retaining spring,  so it is slightly loose.  There is an old arsenal repair to the stock, at the heel. The buttstock has some nice cross-grain tigerstriping. This rifle still has a straight infantry-style bolt. The cleaning rod is in present.  (I assume that it was shortened.)   It is still chambered in 7.65mm Argentine Mauser. Serial # M603X.  (Manufactured circa 1896.)  The serial numbers on this rifle all match, but the crest has been buffed off, which is typical for imported Argentine Mausers. The original military ladder sight is present, and works properly. The bluing on this rifle is 98%. I suspect that was reblued — at least at the muzzle — but the markings are sharp.  The magazine follower shows some nice electric bluing.  The buttplate has gone to gray, but could be buffed. The bore is very good+ with no pitting, fairly shiny, with sharp rifling. So this should make a great shooter. Note that Norma and PPU factory 7.65mm Argentine Mauser softnose ammo is readily available.  A useful and reasonably–priced rifle that is also a Federally-exempt antique. (PCK-530)
