Scarce Early H&A XL Derringer .41 Remington — Excellent
A scarce antique early-model variant Hopkins & Allen XL single-shot Derringer chambered in .41 Remington Rimfire with a 2.5-inch barrel. The original heavy nickel finish (99%) is in exceptionally nice condition with just minor handling scratches. The hexagonal barrel is marked “XL DERRINGER” on top of the barrel and “Pat. APR 5, 1870” on one flat. These markings are sharp, so therefore this does not appear to be a re-nickeled pistol — but I cannot be certain of that. Original dark wood grips with very minor wear. The bore has shallow rifling and some pitting. It looks shootable. The side-swing barrel latch works very nicely, with tight lock-up. Serial #16X. This very low serial number means that it was made circa 1870. Note: I have a small quantity of original Remington-made pre-World War 2-production copper-cased .41 Rimfire ammunition available separately, but only for the buyers of any of my Derringers.
