Scarce Budapest Steyr Mannlicher M.95 8x56R
A scarce early-productiion Budapest Steyr Mannlicher M.95 8x56R straight-pull rifle. Has a 30″ barrel with a shootable bore, and a fairly nice condition European walnut stock. It is import marked under the barrel. Serial # 2769H. This rife was rearsenalized with serial # 69 in most places including the stock and bolt. See photos for details. The M30 cartridge (8x56RS = RandHulse und Spitzgeschoss) was a large-rim with a pointed bullet. To differentiate this new chambering from the older Round Nose 8x50R chambering, the letter ‘S’ was stamped on the barrel shanks of the converted weapons– including this one. A Note on Ammunition Safety: The M95 rifles chambered for the 8x56mm cartridge are not recommended to be used with the old conical-nosed 8x50mm cartridge. Although both cartridges are rimmed, and headspaced at the rim, the 8x56mm is 6mm longer and more powerful. This rifle is in remarkably good condition, considering its age. The canvas sling appears to be a later replacement. Model 1895 rifles made before 1899 are very hard to find! (BEC-786)
